Why Morehead City Homes Attract Spiders

Living on Bogue Sound means warm, humid air most of the year, plenty of porch lights, and a steady supply of the insects spiders feed on. Docks, boat lifts, screened porches, sheds and crawl spaces give them sheltered, undisturbed places to build webs and lay egg sacs.

Most spiders here are harmless and even helpful, but nobody wants webs across the front door every morning, and a few local species, like black widows and brown widows, can deliver a bite that needs medical attention. That's where X-Team comes in.

Know Your Spiders

Spiders We Treat Around Morehead City

Brown widow spiderVenomous

Brown Widow

Tan to dark brown with an orange hourglass underneath. Its spiky, round egg sacs are a giveaway. Very common on the coast under railings, patio furniture, grills, mailboxes and boat trailers. Less aggressive than the black widow, but still venomous.

Black widow spiderVenomous

Black Widow

Shiny black with a red hourglass. Prefers dark, undisturbed spots: crawl spaces, woodpiles, meter boxes, under decks and in garages. A bite needs prompt medical care.

Wolf spider

Wolf Spiders

Large, fast, hairy hunters that don't spin webs. They wander in from lawns and dunes, especially in late summer and fall. Startling, but not dangerous to people.

Southern house spider

Southern House Spider

Dark, flattened spider that builds dense, messy webs in window corners, eaves and around siding cracks. A top cause of the cobwebs homeowners complain about.

Golden silk orb-weaver spider

Golden Silk Orb-Weaver ("Banana Spider")

Big yellow-and-black spider with huge golden webs strung between trees and shrubs in late summer. Harmless, but the webs across walkways get old fast.

Brown recluse spider

Brown Recluse

Uncommon in eastern North Carolina and often misidentified. If you think you've found one, we'll confirm the ID before recommending treatment.

How It Works

Our Spider Control Process

  1. Inspect

We walk your home inside and out, checking eaves, porches, crawl spaces, sheds, docks and entry points to find where spiders are living and what's feeding them.

  2. Treat

We apply targeted treatments to harborage areas and the exterior perimeter, focused where spiders actually hide, not sprayed everywhere.

  3. De-web

We knock down existing webs and egg sacs around eaves, windows, entryways and porches so you see a difference right away.

  4. Prevent

Our Integrated Pest Management approach also cuts down the insects spiders eat. We point out sealing, lighting and moisture fixes, and offer recurring service to keep them from coming back.

Prevention

Simple Ways to Keep Spiders Away

  • Switch porch and dock lights to yellow "bug" bulbs to attract fewer insects.
  • Keep firewood, lumber and stored gear off the ground and away from the house.
  • Trim shrubs and branches so they don't touch siding or the roofline.
  • Seal gaps around doors, windows, vents and utility lines.
  • Wear gloves when reaching into sheds, boxes, boat storage and outdoor furniture.
  • Store items in sealed plastic bins instead of cardboard boxes.
